Unlocking the Potential of BINUS UNIVERSITY’s Digital Libraries as Educational Lifelines

Nusa Tenggara Timur – BINUS University has initiated a program centered on digital libraries developed by the Computer Engineering team. The program aims to address disparities in educational resources faced by students in 3T (Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged) regions due to limited support in technological infrastructure.

The digital libraries are designed to operate without an internet connection and work in areas with unstable electricity. Each digital library contains over 4,000 items, including e-books and videos on various subjects, making them an effective solution for improving educational resources in remote locations.

Since 2019, BINUS University has been using its expertise in information technology to empower communities. The university has established digital libraries in 3T regions and plans to expand to 100 sites in the coming years. This initiative aligns with the university’s mission to foster and empower society in building and serving the nation.

The program also entails consistent evaluations to analyze the effectiveness and impact of digital libraries. This continuous monitoring ensures that the devices operate efficiently, and that the initiative improves educational access and quality in these regions.

The hard work of the wonderful team of Computer Engineering students, Edward Evannov, Santo Wiguna, and Hendry Li, under the guidance of Dr. Rinda Hedwig, S.Kom., M.T., the leader of the Research Interest Group in “Photonics and Computer Simulation,” has led to the creation of a resilient digital library system that addresses the specific challenges and needs faced by communities in these disadvantaged areas.

With this innovative initiative, BINUS University is making significant advancements in bridging the educational gap in Indonesia, equipping students in disadvantaged areas with essential resources for academic success as part of our vision of empowering society in building the nation.
