BINUS University Successfully Concludes “STEMPede Olympic 2025,” Fostering Future Innovators in Science and Code

JAKARTA, August 14, 2025 – The halls of BINUS University’s Syahdan Campus buzzed with intellectual energy today as the STEMPede Olympic 2025 reached its thrilling conclusion. Organized by the Computer Engineering department, the event brought together the most promising high school and vocational (SMA/SMK) students from across the Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) and beyond, challenging them to push the boundaries of logic and creativity under the theme “STEM and Programming Olympic”.

The competition served as a dynamic platform designed to cultivate resilience and adaptability among students, preparing them for a rapidly evolving professional landscape. Participants competed in two rigorous categories: the STEM Olympiad and the Programming Competition, both conducted entirely in English to mirror global standards.

A Battle of Logic and Endurance

The day began with the Opening Ceremony at 08:00 AM, setting a spirited tone for the finals. In the STEM Olympiad, finalists faced a grueling two-hour session from 09:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Unlike standard examinations, this category demanded pure analytical prowess; participants tackled complex case studies covering Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry without the aid of calculators. The problems were designed to test not just rote memory, but the application of fundamental theories to real-world scenarios.

Meanwhile, the Programming Competition saw teams of up to three students engaged in an intense “Live Coding” session from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM. Competitors were tasked with developing software solutions using Python, C++, or Java to solve algorithmic problems. The judges enforced strict integrity protocols, with immediate disqualification mandated for any instances of plagiarism, ensuring a fair test of technical skill and innovation.

Celebrating Academic Excellence

The event, which opened registration back in June, required participants to form school-affiliated teams, emphasizing collaboration alongside individual brilliance. By 04:00 PM, the atmosphere shifted from tension to celebration during the Closing Ceremony, where the top three winners in each category were awarded for their exceptional performance.

Through STEMPede Olympic 2025, BINUS University continues to solidify its commitment to bridging theoretical education with practical application, nurturing the next generation of engineers and scientists ready to tackle the challenges of the 21st century.

1: The Intensity of Competition

The day began in the “During Competition” area, captured by numerous time-stamped images. These images, all clustered on August 14th, mark the time the competitors, including the ultimate winners, were focused on their tasks.

The competition was based on rules established in earlier meetings, which defined the stakes:

  • Programming Competition: Students raced to solve case-based problems using Python, C/C++, or Java. The final score was a blend of coding precision and sheer completion speed, with penalties for errors and slow completion.
  • STEM Competition: The focus was on the accuracy of answers, as any wrong answer resulted in zero points for that specific question.

Chapter 2: The Awards Ceremony

As the competition wrapped up, the atmosphere shifted to celebration. The “Winner” subfolders document the awards ceremony for the top achievers. The competition was fierce, with multiple participants securing top spots across both categories:
